Will you be brave this year?

Therese Tarlinton | Brand Ambassador & Mentor

At this exact time last year, I had the same thought in my head - I really want to write a book. This would be the third year in a row that I had the intention but would this really be the year that I would actually do it? Three things motivated me into action: I’ve been mentoring women in business for 15 years and I saw how many brands were doing it tough. There was a movement to #shoplocal and a swing towards Australian made products, but we are asking customers to support our businesses. Why not ask business to support other businesses? I work for a big brand and my boss, who was a brilliant leader, was about to start his MBA. I thought about whether this was something I should also do, but as I had zigzagged from corporate to entrepreneur a few times in my career, it just didn’t feel right. But the longing to be better, know more and have an edge did. And the last one was the most powerful of all, what if i didn’t and sat here a year from now in exactly the same position? That was enough to stir me into action. Of course, the thought was terrifying and exciting. What if it’s no good? Then I remembered a saying I had seen and have used so many times in my mentoring journey. “What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” So one year on, I have written the book and got a publishing deal and my book will launch on Amazon and Kindle US, UK, AU, plus the best stockists namely Booktopia in Australia, Barnes and Noble, Walmart and Target in the USA. 2021 has been a year that we will never forget for a lot of reasons, but it is also a year that I will remember that I was brave and did what I was scared to do the years before. Become exposed, write from my heart and hopefully when small business owners read it, their business will benefit and it will be a better 2022 for them.At this exact time last year, I had the same thought in my head - I really want to write a book.
