I did my first partnership nearly 20 years ago.
I was on a trip to America when I saw something that combined my two loves — brands and babies.
It was a Jeep baby stroller, sitting proudly on the shelf at Toys “R” Us in Boston.
Something went off in my head — a light bulb moment.
I thought, “I don’t think there’s anything like this back home.”
When I got back to Australia, I did my research — and I was right. There was nothing like it.
By pure luck, I was heading to an expo where the manufacturer was also exhibiting.
So, with all the confidence in the world, I walked up to their stand and asked if I could represent their brand in Australia and bring Jeep baby strollers to Australian parents.
That first meeting went really well.
When I got home, I did a full feasibility study — market demand, pricing, retail opportunities — and kept in contact with them over many late-night calls and emails until, finally, they said yes.
I ordered samples, got them tested to meet Australian safety standards, and worked with the factory to make the necessary modifications. Eventually, we created a version that passed compliance and could be sold through retail stores across the country.
That was the moment I realised something powerful - working with another brand makes everything easier.
When you align with an established name, you borrow their credibility and influence, which helps open doors faster.
